Julia Butterfly Hill |
I believe Julia Butterfly IS a wild woman in every sense of the word. She has shown her dedication to what she believes is right and true by living in the high branches of a tree she has named Luna, for over a year now. Her heart and spirit guide her as does her love for the old growth redwoods that are rapidly disappearing through the jaws of corporate greed. She has withstood driving rain, harrassment of the timber workers including flashing lights and incredibly loud noise blared sat her. She will not allow her feet to touch the ground until she has done all she can. She is an unconventional young woman, 24 years old, with a strength of character and spirit that has inspired and awed me since she climbed that tree. I love and respect this woman very much...
Luna Vigil Surpasses One Year As Action Continues
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
by Robert Parker
As December storms began to descend upon Humboldt County and the longest night of the year approached a lone vigil continued on, high atop an ancient redwood that has come to be known to the world as Luna. A vigil slowly yet determinedly moving past full circle, having been touched by each of the seasons in turn over the course of a year, and now again visited by winters snows and cold. A vigil that has left many wondering how long, how much longer will our sister endure.
Julia Butterfly Hill awoke to the morning sun of December 10, 1998 having lived in her platform among Lunas branches for exactly one year on that day. While the community on the ground below prepared for the celebrations marking this event, and protests to be held over the course of the next few days, speculating as to if they would be joined by Butterfly, Julia made a simple affirmation. "My feet will not touch the ground until I feel I have done everything in my power to make the world aware of this problem and to stop the destruction," quietly stated the woman who would soon find herself at the center of a world wide media spotlight.
And her feet did not touch the ground......
Words and Poetry from Julia
All life is created in love, and thus in the depths of every human being lies a good heart. Some have lost their path from this love, so it up to us to show them the way.
Moments of Hope
Patches of sun
breaks through the clouds
transforming mist and rain
into prismic wonderlands.
Dancing rainbows
colors scatter to the winds
but that irridescent moment
is caught held sacred deep within.
